live from the cbs bay area studios, this is k p i x 5 news. it is pouring out there tonight. the rain is not stopping and, brian, we even had some thunder and lightning. >> we had it all tonight. man, when it rains, it pours. the strongest cells now shown are headed into livermore, part of the east bay. a couple of heavy showers now in san ramon and getting ready to get into fremont. this is all ushered along by a cold front that is robust and narrow. when the rain begins to let up and it will now, i will will be through. we'll have some shower activity

from sunrise until tomorrow. in the meantime, if you are in the east bay down into the south bay, it will come down pretty good but briefly. the forecast for you in a few. >> thank you, brian. oh, yeah, as we mentioned, sounded like a little like a haunted house. this video was shot just a short time ago in wall nut creek. a woman is back on land after spending last night trying to stay alive. out on monterey bay, betty yu on the tranquil trip that turned into a nightmare. >> we are at the monterey harbor where this woman launched her boat yesterday afternoon. she ran into trouble about two hours late another strong winds which pushed her out into the ocean. a woman who set out to chase the sunset on this inflatable raft yesterday ended up clinging to it for 15 hours overnight, lost in the icy monterey bay water.

the coast guard says that once the engine fell off and punctured the boat, she had nothing but a little tiny oar and willpower. >> she must have been swimming, just fighting, you know. she said she had glares but it was really foggy last night. >> reporter: a fisherman spotted the woman about two miles off lover's point. the raft was folded up and 20% under water. >> she was too cold to react to anything. >> reporter: the pair didn't have the strength to lift her on to her boat. she clung to the side of it and waited for the coast guard. >> this woman survived on her own all night, probably very lonely, psychologically, stressful situation to be out there, but she maintained the will to survive and the fact she had a life jacket on helped ensure her survival. the fire captain said that, if

not for the firermen, it would have been impossible to find the woman. >> that was an extremely stroke of good luck that she was found the way she was. >> reporter: in monterey, betty yu. >> coast guard says that the woman is 45 years old from san diego. she is expected to be released from the hospital in the next 48 hours. a bay area teacher his jail accused of doing horrible things to his students. >> reporter: in ronald guinto's 7th grade student, pictures of him smiling with students. no one knew he was under investigation for sexually abusing students at his last job. >> any criminal investigation is going to be confident and quiet so we were not aware of it as well. >> reporter: richmond police say that the abuse happened here. he is accused of sexually abusing four students between the ages of 11 and 13. the charges, 11 counts of lewd acts against a minor.

the kids were eight and nine years old. police and parents are now wondering where the heck did they get it? >> yeah, to be in third grade and have their own pipe. >> reporter: what do you think should be done? they should be expelled. they should follow further to find where they found it. >> reporter: so far, no one has been arrested and the school district is not saying a word and an east bay woman is dead. she called the police on her stoner daughter and grandson. according to this affidavit, the grandmother found bludgeoned to death in her own home by a sledgehammer called 911 not once but twice the day before to report her daughter and grand son smoking marijuana on the house. nancy burley was found on this home on sunday morning, her daughter called authorities to say she grabbed a sledgehammer out of the garage, cleaned it and hit her mother five times with it while she was using the restaurant room.

during an interview with detectives, cindy lynn said she was tired of her daughter bullying her 36-year-old son. nancy died of blunt force trauma to the head on monday. she remains in the santa rita jail facing charges of murder. a woman's grandson, troy burle is in came on drug and gun charges. he set up an illegal pot grow in his grandmother's backyard. bullets flew on the mccarthy freeway. a man arrived saying he had been shot on 580 near hyde street this afternoon. looks like the gunman meant business. you can see bullet holes piercing car windshield. the man is expected to be okay. no word on a suspect. just last week, you remember a shooting on 580 in castro valleys shut down that section for about four hours. four men were later arrested.

no one was hurt. amtrak traffic on the east bay was brought to a stand still. it happened on main street and o'hara avenue. amtrak says that 101 people were on board. that train was coming from bakers field and stockton and stopped on the tracks until the coroner arrived. police and firefighters walked the tracks searching for clues. we are told that the investigation could take some time. it was a close call at a fresno 7-eleven. watch as a car rolls right into the store. you can see a customer mo was buying a cup of coffee turn around to see what's going on. police say that the 17-year-old boy behind the wheel didn't have a drive's license. he told them that he hit the gas instead the brakes while trying to park. nobody was hurt. major changes tonight for anyone applying to college. the s. a. t. is getting a make joe. jim axelrod on what's in and what's out. >> reporter: the sweeping
